It was a good run, but The First Academy Royals unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Lake Highland Prep by a score of 55-52. While losing is never fun, The First Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Lake Highland Prep is ranked 40th).
The First Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lorenzo De jesus, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. De jesus has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Simmons, who scored 13 points along with five assists.
The First Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Lake Highland Prep, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
The First Academy and Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 375 points over their last six matches. Lake Highland Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Forest at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Forest is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
