Combs hasn't had much luck against Eastmark recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Coyotes will face off against the Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. Combs has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Combs is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Thursday. They lost 16-1 to ALA - Queen Creek.
Combs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elliana Snyder, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Eastmark had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.
Mia Migliaccio was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Gomez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 games. Andrea Fletcher also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Eastmark hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - Gilbert North struck out 15 times.
Eastmark's record now sits at 14-6. As for Combs, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Combs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Eastmark struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Combs suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Eastmark in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
