The Peebles Indians came tearing into Thursday's contest with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington by a score of 49-36. Given Peebles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington is ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peebles got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Peebles' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caydence Carroll, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Peebles pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Peebles will look to defend their home court on Monday against Portsmouth West at 7:00 p.m. Portsmouth West will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Peebles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, they will head out on the road to challenge Blanchester at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
