The Hillsdale FIGHTING KNIGHTS will venture away from home to face off against the Gunn Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hillsdale's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Gunn's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Last Monday, Hillsdale earned a 7-4 victory over San Mateo. The win continues a trend for the FIGHTING KNIGHTS in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won eight in a row.
Jake Belloni was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Jacob Bonner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Gunn had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Firebirds by a score of 7-4.
Gunn also got a great performance from Anders Lo as he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave Lo a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Cam Owen and Adrian Lee did most of the damage at the plate: Owen scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Lee scored a run while going 2-for-5. Owen also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sahil Saksena, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Gunn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Hillsdale now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Gunn, their record now sits at 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hillsdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gunn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
