Becton and Wallington are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Becton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Wallington's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
It was a proper cat-fight when Becton took on Midland Park on Wednesday. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 2nd.
Meanwhile, Wallington never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.
Alex Syby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Wallington: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 3-4 otherwise. Syby was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Jordan Kassteen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Perry, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wallington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Wallington back to even at 5-5. As for Becton, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Everything went Becton's way against Wallington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Becton made off with a 21-4 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
