The Berkeley Stags only won by three when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 22-point they dealt the Stratford Knights on Friday. Berkeley put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 60-38 win. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Knights are ranked 159th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elijah Riley, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nizhier Baldwin, who scored nine points.
Berkeley has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Stratford, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-18.
Berkeley will head out on the road to challenge the Cobras at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cane Bay is on a five-game streak of home wins, the Stags a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Stratford will take on the Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
