The Watervliet Cannoneers will head out on the road to challenge the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Friday, Watervliet suffered a tough 62-42 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats.
Meanwhile, Coxsackie-Athens waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Chatham by a score of 46-38. Given Coxsackie-Athens' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Panthers are ranked 511th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riley Sitcer was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Baileigh Briski was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Watervliet's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6. As for Coxsackie-Athens, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Watervliet suffered a grim 66-45 defeat to the Riverhawks when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Briski, who shot 6-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double on 37 points and 11 rebounds. Now that Watervliet knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
