California has gone a perfect 10-0 against Santa Fe recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Condors will square off against the Chiefs at 3:15 p.m. California's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Santa Fe's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
California took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Valley Christian with a sharp 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Condors, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Alexis Salas looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Shirley Acevedo and Jessica Gurule did most of the damage at the plate: Acevedo went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Gurule went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Vasquez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
California hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Christian struck out 13 times.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Santa Fe ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against La Serna, sneaking past 12-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chiefs considering their two-run performance the game before.
Isabella Montez looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordyn Bertram was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Brooklyn Slater was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.
California pushed their record up to 15-9 with the victory, which was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Santa Fe, their record is now 10-12.
Santa Fe's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. California has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Santa Fe, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will California keep running through batters, or will the Chiefs buck the trend?
California took their victory against Santa Fe in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Condors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
