Basketball Recap: Highlands Ranch Skates Past Ponderosa with Ease

Highlands Ranch waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Ponderosa Mustangs 81-24. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 25 points or more this season.

Highlands Ranch's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kimora Banks-Thomas, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Banks-Thomas a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Ezra Simonich, who went 7 of 8 en route to 16 points along with five assists and five steals.

Banks-Thomas wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Highlands Ranch was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Ponderosa saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jenni Sorvillo went 6 for 7 on her way to 13 points. Sorvillo also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 86%.

Highlands Ranch pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 35.2% in those games and 27.6% outside of them. As for Ponderosa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Highlands Ranch wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-18 win against Heritage on the 4th. As for Ponderosa, they have also already played their next game, a 48-20 loss against ThunderRidge on the 4th.
