The Lamar Vikings suffered their biggest loss since December 13, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 67-42 defeat to Haltom might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Lamar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 476th, while Haltom is ranked 124th).
Haltom's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kuol Atak led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Atak is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ashton Moore, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Lamar's defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Haltom, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
Lamar will be playing at home against Martin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Haltom, they will head out on the road to square off against Arlington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
