Basketball Recap: Academy for Classical Education Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Academy for Classical Education Gryphons had to suffer through a 83-46 loss at the hands of the Dublin Fighting Irish. While losing is never fun, the Gryphons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 119th).

When it comes to explaining why Academy for Classical Education lost, don't look at Camden Bailey. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 10 on his way to 21 points. That's the most points Bailey has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ace Hatcher, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Dublin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aj Johnson led the charge by going 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points. Another player making a difference was Matravious Linder, who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points.

Academy for Classical Education has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Dublin, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1.

Academy for Classical Education and Twiggs County will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Academy for Classical Education is facing Twiggs County at the right time seeing as Twiggs County is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Dublin, they and Johnson County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Dublin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Johnson County likes a good challenge.
