Pettus extended their losing streak to 12 on Friday, dropping them down to 1-14. They came up short against the Kenedy Lions, falling 15-6. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 19, 2022, but that streak is no more.
As for Kenedy, their record is now 12-8. Considering they have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Kenedy's part, Izaiah Maldonado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Maldonado has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other pitching news, Ryder Hartsfield looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Aaron Lopez and Logan White did most of the damage at the plate: Lopez went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while White got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That home run was Lopez's first of the season. Jarren Cantu was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pettus will take on rival Yorktown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Kenedy is set to challenge their familiar foe Woodsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
