The Southington Blue Knights's game on Monday was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 47-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Berlin. Southington has struggled against Berlin recently, as their match on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Southington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lily Cooper. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Cooper hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Katie Doherty was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, Southington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berlin only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Berlin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Ellison out in front who scored 15 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Brooke Walker, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Southington now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Berlin, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Southington will head out on the road to take on South Windsor at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Berlin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Branford at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
