The Liberty Bison are taking a road trip to take on the Orange Vista Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Liberty turned things around against Vista del Lago on Thursday. They walked away with a 26-19 victory over the Ravens.
The critical scores for Liberty came from Dominic Hall, Christopher Debose, Daxton Laurer, and Parris Peacock.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Orange Vista). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-21 win over Paloma Valley. The Coyotes haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
A big part of Orange Vista's win came down to the chemistry between Khalil Abdul-Aziz and his top target Tristan Cooper. Abdul-Aziz threw for 155 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes while Cooper picked up 131 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Cooper a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two).
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Orange Vista proved: they limited Paloma Valley to a paltry 0.2 yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Reginald Oden stood above the rest. He picked up four sacks and made six total tackles. Orange Vista's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.8 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.33 on average over their last five games.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Orange Vista, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Keyontae Burrowes, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Orange Vista, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Liberty was taken down by Orange Vista 35-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Abdul-Aziz, who threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.3% of his passes. Now that the Bison know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
