The Northland Prep Academy Spartans waltzed into their match on Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top against Pinon by a score of 47-38. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 27 to 19 on the offensive boards, as Northland Prep Academy did.
Northland Prep Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Schulz out in front who scored 12 points along with seven steals. Schulz hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nat Auker, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds.
Pinon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alysia Mike, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Mike has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Aliyah Tsedah was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Northland Prep Academy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Pinon, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
Northland Prep Academy will head out on the road to challenge Basis at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Basis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday. As for Pinon, they will be playing at home against Hopi at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopi is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
