After flying high against the Mifflin Punchers last Tuesday, the Northland Vikings came back down to earth. Northland was outmatched by Centennial at home and fell 74-27. Northland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-17.
Centennial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Houston, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Houston has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Houston, who scored 17 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Northland's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Centennial, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northland will challenge East at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Centennial, they will head out on the road to challenge Linden-McKinley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Linden-McKinley is on a three-game streak of home wins, Centennial a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
