Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Crew Davis of
Iona Prep (New Rochelle) is the 2024 MaxPreps New York High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 205-pound junior running back led the Gaels to an 11-2 record, the AAA NYCHSFL title and New York Catholic state championship.
For the season, Davis finished with 127 carries for 1,350 yards and 16 scores.
He averaged 10.6 yards per carry and 159.8 total yards a game. He also
led the team in receptions (52), receiving yards (728) and receiving
touchdowns (7).

Against Canisius (Buffalo) in the state championship, Davis had 17 carries for 336 yards and three touchdowns to lead Iona Prep to a 42-26 victory. He added two receptions for 27 yards.
A week prior, Davis led the Gaels to a 43-22 win over St. Anthony's (Melville) in the CHSFL AAA championship. He finished with 21 carries for 222 yards and four touchdowns to go with four receptions for 62 yards.
Iona Prep was the top-ranked team in New York and went 10-0 against in-state opponents.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
