Unatego is 10-0 against Walton since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Unatego Spartans will be staying on the road to face off against the Walton Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on December 21st. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Unatego has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 24 points or more this season. They blew past Bainbridge-Guilford 63-30 on the road. Given Unatego's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Bainbridge-Guilford is ranked 258th), the result two weeks ago wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Walton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Margaretville Central on the road to the tune of 57-20. The victory was just what Walton needed coming off of a 60-30 loss in their prior match.
Walton found their leader in underclassman Grace Walley, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The contest was Walley's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ella Beardslee, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Unatego's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Walton, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-2.
Unatego was able to grind out a solid win over Walton in their previous matchup back in February, winning 44-36. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Walton's Jacqlyn Gransbury, who scored 15 points along with five steals. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Unatego to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
