The Springfield Spartans will head out to square off against the Coventry Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

While Springfield's victory against Ravenna wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Ravens a 2-0 shutout on Monday.

Not much got past Joey Klein, who gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Ravenna off the board. Klein has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Springfield's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bre Ruggiero, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Springfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Coventry's offense. They came up short against Field on Monday, falling 10-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.

Springfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Coventry, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Springfield skirted past Coventry 3-1 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
