On Friday, the South Fremont Cougars faced the Sugar-Salem Diggers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. South Fremont sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 win over Sugar-Salem. The victory was familiar territory for South Fremont who now have six in a row.
It was another big night for Brianne Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of South Fremont's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Christensen, who scored ten points along with five assists.
Despite the loss, Sugar-Salem still got an impressive performance from Ashlyn Harris, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harris has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Andee Petterson, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and two steals.
South Fremont's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Sugar-Salem, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Fremont won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Snake River at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Idaho (Snake River is ranked 16th, while South Fremont is ranked 17th). As for Sugar-Salem, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ririe at 7:30 p.m.
