The Canton Golden Bears had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They walked away with a 43-34 win over Potsdam. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Sandstoners are ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Potsdam had strong showings from Brodie Delaney, who scored 13 points, and Ian VanWagner, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. VanWagner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played.
Canton's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Potsdam, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-6.
Canton will head out on the road to challenge the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Potsdam, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Pirates at 7:15 p.m. Harrisville will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
