The Rock Canyon Jaguars proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 36) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Highlands Ranch 67-64. Given Rock Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Highlands Ranch is ranked 72nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rock Canyon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Macoy Terry out in front who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Kliewer, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Highlands Ranch lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Payton TerEick, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. TerEick has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Forester, who scored 12 points.
The victory (which was Rock Canyon's third in a row) raised their record to 10-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Highlands Ranch, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.
Rock Canyon will take on Douglas County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highlands Ranch won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mullen at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jordan Leslie and Luke Bakken.
