Hazel Green (Ala.) jumped out to an early lead against
Huntsville (Ala.) and never looked back on the way to a 24-3 victory on Saturday.
The Trojans put up seven points in the opening frame. Hazel Green scored on a kick return touchdown by
DeOndre R. "Dre" McClain.
After taking the lead on a kick return touchdown by McClain in the first quarter, HG led 10-3 at the half.
The Trojans expanded their lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. Hazel Green scored two times in the third, including once on a
Rodney K Held touchdown run.
HG's standout player in the win was Held. The senior ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Brewer Hicklen played well for the Panthers. The junior quarterback kicked one field goal.
The Trojans came into the game allowing 13.9 points per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 35-34 win for Hazel Green.
The defeat comes as a step back for Huntsville, which notched a 35-32 victory over Gadsden City in its previous outing. The loss snapped Huntsville's 2-game winning streak. With the win HG extended its winning streak to three games.
In its next matchup HHS (6-4) will take on Central in a non-conference game. The Wildcats will bring a record of 6-3 into the meeting.
