The Pendleton Heights Arabians will head out on the road to take on the Westfield Shamrocks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pendleton Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Pendleton Heights beat Mt. Vernon 9-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Arabians.
Brynlie Holden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last eight matches. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Avry Miller was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Aubrey Fox was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs.
Pendleton Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Mt. Vernon hit Westfield with a five-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Shamrocks came up short against the Marauders, falling 8-2. Surprisingly, this marked the Shamrocks' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Westfield also got a good showing from Shea Vohs, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Vohs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Kainrath was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
The win got Pendleton Heights back to even at 10-10. As for Westfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pendleton Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pendleton Heights couldn't quite get it done against Westfield in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Arabians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
