3A Region 4 recap October 8, 2013
Louisville added to the longest winning streak in 3A Region 4 this week by beating Winona, 35-0. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Wildcats.
South Pontotoc lost to Kemper County 65-26 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Louisville's dynamic duo of Wyatt Roberts and Desmond Goss proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Roberts threw for 179 yards and 4 touchdowns and Goss had 85 yards receiving. Dalton Hudspeth helped Louisville's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 57 yards.
Josh Williams provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Aberdeen bested Nettleton. He completed 11 passes for 160 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 154 yards. Williams' key target this week was Sammie Burroughs, who caught 5 passes for 63 yards.
Devontae Vickers was a force in the backfield as the Wildcats beat the Cougars.
The Tigers' Dakota Cruber and Levert Jernigan have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Cruber has thrown for 1,669 yards this season, while Jernigan has 44 catches for 616 yards. Kemper County's Kelvin Bourrage leads the league in rushing yards with 494.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when M.C. Miller's team takes on South Pontotoc. The Wildcats are currently in first, while Roger Chism's team is in fourth.
Winona made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,895 from 8,769. The improvement was largely due to a 35-0 victory over Ken Chandler's team last week.
