The Hobart Brickies managed to keep up with the Portage Indians until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Hobart took a serious blow against Portage, falling 73-41. While losing is never fun, Hobart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Portage is ranked 129th).
Hobart lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Felix Lopez, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Erik Kingery, who scored nine points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Michael Wellman, who scored 18 points. The game was Wellman's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Clark, who scored 17 points.
Hobart are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3. As for Portage, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hobart will take on Calumet New Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portage, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Westville at 1:30 p.m. Hopefully Westville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
