The Shaw Cardinals suffered their biggest defeat since December 2, 2023 on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 46-24 walloping at the hands of Maple Heights. Shaw has not had much luck with Maple Heights recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Maple Heights was led to victory by Brooklyn Dillard and Jovannah Nichols. Dillard scored 12 points, while Nichols scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nichols has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Wilson, who scored six points.
Shaw's defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.3 points per game. As for Maple Heights, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.
Shaw will face off against Villa Angela-St. Joseph at 12:45 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Villa Angela-St. Joseph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Sunday. As for Maple Heights, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. East comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
