Standley Lake hasn't had much luck against D'Evelyn recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Standley Lake Gators will be playing at home against the D'Evelyn Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
D'Evelyn will be up against a hot Standley Lake squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Standley Lake was the clear victors by a 54-33 margin over Littleton on Tuesday. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Lions are ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Standley Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sydney Martin, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Thanks to that strong game, Martin now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Valenzuela, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 15 points and five steals.
Standley Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely D'Evelyn's strategy against Wheat Ridge on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that D'Evelyn blew Wheat Ridge out of the water with a 68-15 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-4.
D'Evelyn found their leader in sophomore Lyla Nagy, who went 9-for-10 en route to 20 points and three steals. Nagy is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Colleen Monahan, who went 6-for-13 on her way to 15 points along with five assists and four steals.
D'Evelyn pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Standley Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Standley Lake has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like D'Evelyn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Standley Lake lost to D'Evelyn at home by a decisive 58-43 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Standley Lake, Peyton Marvel (who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
