Winning is just a little bit easier when you drain five more threes than your opponent, a fact the York Dukes proved on Saturday. They walked away with a 47-36 win over North Platte. The win made it back-to-back wins for York.
York's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kiersten Portwine led the charge by scoring 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Koch, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ellie Blakely, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Macie Freeze, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
The win got York back to even at 7-7. As for North Platte, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
York will head out on the road to square off against Northwest at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Northwest is ranked 61st, while York is ranked 79th). As for North Platte, they will take on Alliance at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
