Basketball Recap: San Simon Sets Scoring Season-High Against the Gregory School

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Simon). They blew past The Gregory School Hawks 48-20 on Tuesday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-9.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Simon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Betsabe Castellanos, who posted 12 points and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Castellanos a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hollie Keil, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

San Simon was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Gregory School only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, The Gregory School saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zena Smith put up nine points and eight steals. That was a full 45% of The Gregory School's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

San Simon's record now sits at 8-11. As for The Gregory School, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-6.

The future could be bright for both San Simon and The Gregory School: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. San Simon will try to hand Patagonia their ninth-straight loss when the two meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, The Gregory School will try to hand Hayden their fifth-straight defeat when the two meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
