Last Wednesday, Greenville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-49 to Gentry. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greenville in their matchups with Gentry: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Greenville had strong showings from Gymanuel Wells, who scored 19 points, and Tamarion Rhodes, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Canton can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 63-21 victory over Gentry. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Gentry is ranked 141st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Canton, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
Greenville was taken down by Canton 71-32 in their previous meeting on January 9th. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Greenville was down 47-15.
