Whiting extended the longest winning streak in Greater South Shore this week by beating Calumet, 51-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Oilers.
Whiting took down the Warriors 51-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. AJ Veloz threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
Jeff Cain's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Ethan Young chipped in 149 yards. Justin Jendreas helped Whiting's passing attack out by catching three balls for 98 yards.
Patrick Petruf was the best wideout in the league this week as the Oilers defeated Calumet. Petruf racked up four receptions for 115 yards.
Whiting's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Oilers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Veloz has thrown for 1306 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Petruf has 27 catches for 651 yards. Young leads the league in rushing with 674 yards.
A big matchup in Greater South Shore this week will be when Whiting takes on River Forest. The Oilers are in first place, while the Ingots are in sixth place.
Bishop Noll made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,131 from 10,632. The advance stemmed from a 35-13 victory over River Forest last week.
