On Friday, the Providence Academy Lions faced the Maple Grove Crimson in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Providence Academy fell to the Crimson 86-80. It was the first time this season that Providence Academy let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Providence Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maddyn Greenway. Despite the final result, she scored 44 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. That was a full 55% of Providence Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ari Peterson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Providence Academy's defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-4. As for Maple Grove, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence Academy will take on the Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maple Grove, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Sabers at 7:00 p.m. Shakopee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Crimson are ranked seventh).
