The Holly Bronchos will square off against the Powers Catholic Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Holly is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Owosso on Monday. They lost 8-1 to the Trojans. The loss continues a trend for the Bronchos in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost four in a row.
Molly Charboneau (SVSU) made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan McMullen, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Powers Catholic). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Carman-Ainsworth a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Chargers as it spelled an end to their 11-game losing streak.
Alexa Glady was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Powers Catholic got a massive performance out of Makayla Stewart, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. What's more, Stewart posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last seven games. Sarah Fox was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Powers Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Powers Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 3-19. As for Holly, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Holly's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Bronchos have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Powers Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Holly continue to outrun the ball?
