The Moffat Cowboys will be playing at home against the Centennial Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Moffat has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Moffat scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. Everything went their way against Antonito as Moffat made off with a 56-35 win. That looming 56-35 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Moffat yet this season.
Moffat can attribute much of their success to Sequoia Sirois, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 23 rebounds, and Kadence McWilliams, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which McWilliams has scored at least a third of Moffat's points. Another player making a difference was Shay Sidel, who scored six points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Centennial had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 41-33 win over Antonito on Friday. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Centennial has managed all season.
Centennial found their leader in underclassman Reina Aguilera, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 21 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Aguilera pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmin Salcido, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Moffat's victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Centennial, their win bumped their record up to 1-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Moffat have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Moffat was taken down by Centennial 55-22 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Moffat, Xiomara Maestas (who scored 29 points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
