Trigg County is 0-10 against Lyon County since April of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Wildcats will head out to challenge the Lyons at 11:00 a.m.
Trigg County had taken Madisonville-North Hopkins down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Wildcats took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maroons.
Trigg County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Hampton, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lyon County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Crittenden County by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.
Trace Walker tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Spears, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last nine matches. Another player making a difference was Peyton Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Lyon County pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Trigg County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trigg County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lyon County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Trigg County might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Lyon County in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
