The Holly Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Las Animas out 68-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Holly to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andre Salgado, who scored 27 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Salgado has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Eaton, who scored 26 points.
Las Animas' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tj Ortiz, who scored 23 points. Another player making a difference was Brander Nichols, who scored 17 points.
Holly pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Las Animas, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holly will take on Crowley County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Crowley County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Las Animas, they will be playing at home against Calhan at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Calhan is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
