The Callaway Chargers came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they left with even more momentum. They greeted the New Year with with a 61-43 win over Vicksburg. Given Callaway's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Vicksburg is ranked 171st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Callaway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jahanna Wilson, who scored 19 points along with six assists and four steals. The match was Wilson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Shelbie Walker was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 16 rebounds and three blocks.
Callaway's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Vicksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
Callaway will head out on the road to face off against Warren Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Warren Central is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. Vicksburg will take on Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
