Softball Recap: Providence Wins Going Away Against Southwestern

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Providence brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on the Southwestern Rebels with a sharp 18-0 victory on Monday. The Pioneers have beaten the Rebels the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.

Sydney Laslie (2027) made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Lainey Weber (2028) was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Presley Flowers (2028) was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Providence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Providence's record now sits at 11-7. As for Southwestern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence will welcome New Washington at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Southwestern, they will host Switzerland County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pacers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.56 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
