Spearfish suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after falling to Huron. The Spartans had been ranked 24th, but fell to 27 following the defeat.
Washington extended the longest winning streak in Greater Dakota this week by beating Yankton, 52-8. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Warriors.
Connor Burchill threw for 68 yards and three touchdowns. He went five-seven with zero interceptions.
Sam Cooke was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 121 yards on 17 carries as Washington lost to O'Gorman. Teammate Tanner Waddell added to the ground attack by rushing for 76 yards.
Pikula was the best wideout in the league this week as the Cobblers lost to the Knights. Pikula racked up eight receptions for 68 yards. Taran Multz helped Rapid City Central's passing attack out by catching two balls for 26 yards.
Jon Hander provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Brian Hermanson's team topped the Bucks/Gazelles. He completed eight passes for 153 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 35 yards. Hander's favorite target this week was Nathan Gerry, who caught two passes for 67 yards.
The Warriors' Hander and Gerry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Greater Dakota in both passing and receiving yards. Hander has thrown for 1161 yards this season, while Gerry, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 18 catches for 493 yards. Lincoln's Caden Quintanillia leads the league in rushing yards with 729.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rapid City Central takes on Roosevelt. As it stands, Trent Pikula's team is in sixth, while the Rough Riders are in second.
