Green Valley has been on the road for three straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Canyon Springs Pioneers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Green Valley came up short against Valley and fell 81-68.
Brock Barney put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. He also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Deymien Tunis was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Canyon Springs was able to grind out a solid victory over Palo Verde on Tuesday, taking the game 63-52. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Canyon Springs.
Armondo Lewis Jr was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Canyon Springs' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ma'Aqwaviuos Macklin, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Green Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Canyon Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-13 record this season.
Saturday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Green Valley have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Canyon Springs struggles in that department as they've made 43.7% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
