It was a good run, but the Crystal City Javelinas unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Hondo 47-43. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Crystal City of the 47-38 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Crystal City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyndsie Bosquez, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Bosquez is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Riyannah Mena, who scored 13 points.
Crystal City's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-13. As for Hondo, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crystal City will take on Cotulla at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cotulla has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Hondo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lytle at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lytle knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Hondo likes a good challenge.
