The Dixie Heights Colonels and the Highlands Bluebirds squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Dixie Heights Colonels had to settle for second. Dixie Heights was outmatched by Highlands on the road and fell 40-7. Dixie Heights was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-0.
Leading Highlands to victory were Cam Giesler and Brody Benke. Giesler rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry, while Benke rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Benke was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards.
Dixie Heights has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Highlands, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Dixie Heights will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Scott at 7:00 p.m. on September 13, 2024. Scott will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Dixie Heights is ranked 32nd). Highlands does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
