The KIPP College Prep Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Idea Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. KIPP College Prep is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, KIPP College Prep faced McKinley Tech in a battle between two of the state's top teams. KIPP College Prep took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of McKinley Tech.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Joey Mitchell, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaden Butler, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
KIPP College Prep struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Idea came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 72-46 margin over SEED DC. Idea's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Idea got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sean Baltimore out in front who scored 16 points along with four steals. Baltimore continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Hinton, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
KIPP College Prep now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Idea, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: KIPP College Prep have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Idea, though, as they've been averaging only 28.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
KIPP College Prep took their victory against Idea in their previous matchup back in February of 2020 by a conclusive 68-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for KIPP College Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
