Even though the Grapevine Mustangs scored an imposing 65 points on Thursday, the Coronado Mustangs still came out on top. Coronado had just enough and edged Grapevine out 67-65. Given Coronado's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Grapevine is ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grapevine's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew E woodcock, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that E woodcock scored 15 or more points. Dillon Lowack was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Coronado's win bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Grapevine, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Coronado will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Eastwood at 9:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Eastwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday. Grapevine won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lubbock at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Lubbock is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
