The Cupertino Pioneers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 59-51 victory over Harker. Given Cupertino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Harker is ranked 633rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cupertino's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Yu, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Soham Nighojkar, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Harker lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bowen Xia, who scored 16 points. Kevin Zhang was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Harker struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cupertino's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-0. As for Harker, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cupertino will square off against Willow Glen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harker, they will head out on the road to face off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
