The Varela Vipers will square off against the JC Bermudez Doral Thunder at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Varela will be strutting in after a victory while JC Bermudez Doral will be coming in after a loss.
Varela is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Dade Christian with a sharp 12-2 win on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Luis Sosa made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Andy Espinoza looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Varela let Jonathan Paniagua and Alexander Gonzalez run wild. Paniagua got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Paniagua's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Varela hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dade Christian struck out 13 times.
Meanwhile, JC Bermudez Doral lost 13-4 to West Broward on Thursday. The Thunder have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
JC Bermudez Doral saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noslen Sanchez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Varela pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs over those games. As for JC Bermudez Doral, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Varela hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like JC Bermudez Doral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
