McDonough has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Lovett Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. McDonough knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Lovett likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, McDonough faced Pace Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. McDonough snuck past Pace Academy with a 63-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Keenan Gray and Eric Chatfield. Gray had a great game and scored 18 points along with eight assists. Meanwhile, Chatfield did his best for the losing side, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Mt. Zion scored an imposing 67 points on Friday, Lovett still came out on top. Lovett took their game against Mt. Zion 77-67. Given Lovett's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Mt. Zion is ranked 399th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDonough has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. As for Lovett, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.
McDonough beat Lovett 75-66 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will McDonough repeat their success, or does Lovett have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
