Madison Edwards made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kendal Macklin was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Audrina Galvan, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .826. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Waco hadn't done well against Ellison recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Waco walked away with a 5-1 win over Ellison.
Like Chaparral, Waco also got a great game from a two-way player: Chloe Nava. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Nava was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Nava wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kalysta Leslie, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Tesharme Bell was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Chaparral's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Waco, their win bumped their record up to 3-4-1.
Chaparral took their victory against Waco in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-1. Will Chaparral repeat their success, or does Waco has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
