The Daingerfield Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Hooks Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Daingerfield rose to the challenge on Thursday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 48-0 win over New Waverly. Given Daingerfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 281st, while New Waverly is ranked 772nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Chase Johnson, who threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Ashton Williams and his 129 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Daingerfield's victory.
Meanwhile, Hooks put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Edgewood on the road to the tune of 92-57. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Hooks' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ripken Birdwell, who threw for 345 yards and five touchdowns on only 16 passes, and Keyshawn Walls, who rushed for 317 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Birdwell hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Emmanuel Baird 1 also helped out as he racked up 170 receiving yards.
Hooks' defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Ra'kadrian Minter and Ranson Jones who racked up four sacks between them.
Daingerfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Hooks, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-0.
Everything came up roses for Daingerfield against Hooks when the teams last played back in October of 2021 as the team secured a 56-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Daingerfield since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
